⚾️ A baseball game to fall asleep - that’s the idea behind Northwoods Baseball Sleep Radio, a podcast that plays “fake baseball games” designed specifically for sleep.
In this podcast, the action is completely made up: the teams don’t exist, the plays are invented, and there’s no need to follow along or anticipate a comeback. Even the announcing is intentionally understated. The host, Wally McCarthy, delivers commentary in a steady, monotone voice that never tries to hype the listener.
The format still feels like a traditional game. Podcast episodes run through a full nine innings, complete with crowd noise and even between-inning commercials, like a real broadcast. The difference is that the overall soundscape is crafted to be less distracting than actual live sports: keeping the ambience of baseball while removing the parts that make you stay awake.
It’s a surprisingly comforting concept: the sound of America’s pastime, but stripped down into something more like atmosphere for sleep than entertainment.
